SIDNEY HAROLD SIMMONS

Sidney Harold Simmons, 70, of Hartfield, died Jan. 16, 2017 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

Sidney was born in England, grew up in Gloucester, and graduated from Gloucester High School.

He was a Master Boat Builder and worked tirelessly to build the most immaculate and precisely made boats. He worked for Norton Yachts.

Sidney was an avid deer hunter, a Chicago Bears fan, and a faithful Dale Earnhardt fan. He loved to spend time with his family and was very devoted to his family. He was a wonderful husband, dad, granddad, son and brother. He will always be in our thoughts and forever in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his father, William L. Simmons Sr.; brother, William L. Simmons Jr., and special uncle and aunt, Malcolm and Janet Lindgren.

He is survived by his wife, Linda M. Simmons; mother, Joyce Simmons; daughter, Janet Simmons Deal (John Paul); sons, Alvin Stevens Jr. (Chrystal) and Darrell Stevens (Jennifer); sister, Ellen Picardat (Baker); grandchildren, John Paul, Wesley, Britney, Tyler, Brooke, Noah, Grace and Parker Ann, and a host of nieces and nephews. 

Funeral service conducted by Chaplain John C. Seltzer was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at Providence Baptist Church. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family received friends Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
