Shirley Anne Shipley, 61, of Topping, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019.

Born and raised in Mathews County, she was the daughter of James and Shirley Shipley, both deceased.

She is survived by her siblings, Jim (Virginia Anne) Shipley of Cobbs Creek, Robert Earl (Cheryl) Shipley of Glenns, and Susan (Kenneth) Lawson of Adner, as well as her beloved feline companions and her closest friends.

Known sometimes as “the crazy cat lady,” she adopted and rescued numerous feline “fur babies.” She also had a love of nature, living by the water, and working outside around her home. She was nurse for 20 years and was currently employed by McGuire VA Medical Center, Richmond, where she was known as being hard-working and a strong advocate for her patients.

A graveside service was held on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at Windsor Gardens Cemetery in Dutton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local humane society.

Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, assisted the family with the arrangements.
