Shirley A. Tomlin, 86, of Hallieford, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022. She was a member of Mathews Baptist Church, and she volunteered with Mathews Meals on Wheels. Shirley loved her gardening, caring for the elderly and children, especially her grandchildren, even helping her grandson with selling newspapers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Eugene “Gene” Tomlin. She is survived by her children, Patty T. Strigle (Brown), Ed Tomlin (Lisa) and Becky Sturgeon; brother, James Byrns (Toshie); grandchildren, Carrie Willis (Patrick), Nathan Walton (Laura), Heather Gray (Coley), Joshua Tomlin (Erin), Justin Tomlin, Amy Ezzell, Ben Tomlin, Patrick Strigle, Mary Petersen (Avery), Paige Hickox and Haley Hickox; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Virginia, followed by burial in H.C. Smither Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at the funeral home.
