Shackelford wins 5A Regional Cross Country Meet

Gloucester High School junior Joshua Shackelford won the boys’ race of the 5A Regional Cross Country Meet with a time of 16:00 on Nov. 1 at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake. 

Shackelford and his freshman teammate Connor O’Beirne, who finished 16th in 17:40, both advanced to the Group 5A State Meet scheduled for tomorrow at Great Meadow in The Plains. 

Also representing GHS were Colton Spence with a time of 18:08, Andrew Wible with 19:04, Josh Ipock in 19:05, Mike Toms in 19:30 and Justin Burgess in 19:37. The Gloucester boys finished at fifth overall of 14 regional teams. 

Princess Anne High School won the boys’ race with an average time of 16:52 and Menchville was second with a 17:19 average. The Gloucester average was 17:59.

In the girls’ race, GHS sophomore Alyssa Lass placed eighth in 20:34 and junior teammate Ruby Williams was 11th with a time of 20:56. Both also advanced to the state meet this week.
