Shackelford, Pryor represent GHS at state meet

Sophomore Joshua Shackelford and senior Vivian Pryor represented Gloucester High School at the VHSL Group 5A Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton. 

Pryor competed in the shot put on Friday and finished at 11th overall with a throw of 30’07.75”.

On Saturday, Shackelford competed in two of the three races for which he qualified. In the 1,600-meter run, he placed third, breaking his school record with a time of 4:22.27. He was also selected as a Milestat Elite Athlete.

The new time ranked Shackelford 24th in Virginia, number one among Virginia high school sophomores, number three among sophomores nationally and 75th overall in the 1,600.

Two hours later, Shackelford competed in the 3,200 and placed sixth overall in 9:44.16, nine seconds off his school record of 9:35.52.

Going into the spring season, Shackelford holds the GHS records in the 800 meter with 1:59.93, the 1,000 with 2:35.77, the 1,500 with 4:05...
