Shackelford, McGee earn state XC bids

Gloucester High School sophomore Joshua Shackelford and junior Megan McGee advanced to the VHSL Group 5A State Cross Country Meet with their performances in the regional race last Thursday at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville.

Shackelford finished sixth overall in a field of 143 regional meet runners with a time of 16:21. He was one of only two high school sophomores to finish in the top 15 and again earned Milestat Elite Athlete honors.

The Gloucester boys’ team placed 11th overall with 316 points, with only the top six teams qualifying for the state meet, along with the top 10 individuals not on those teams.

Representing the Dukes, Aaron Shipe was 64th, Andrew Wible 72nd, Colton Spence 82nd, Christopher Potter at 101 and Noah Bondurant at 103.
