Services announced by local churches

Special services and other activities in churches this week, include the following:

Abingdon Episcopal

Abingdon Episcopal Church, White Marsh, is collecting non-perishable food items for the Bread for Life Food Pantry. All food items may be brought to the parish hall during office hours (Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.-noon).

Like Abingdon Church on Facebook and subscribe to its YouTube channel to join us live Sunday morning at 9 o’clock for an online worship service. To receive a bulletin of the order of service, email the church at admin@abingdonchurch.org.

Apostles Lutheran

Physical worship services at Apostles Lutheran Church, Gloucester, continue to be suspended for the time being. A virtual worship service is available on the website, apostles-elca.org, under “Apostles Worship at Home.”

Bethany United Methodist

The sermon title of Pastor Mike Derflinger of Bethany United Methodist Church, Gloucester Point, on Sunday will be “Seeing the Radiance of God’s Glory.” Join in worship on the church’s YouTube channel. For more information visit www.bethanyumc-gp.org or find us on Facebook.

Central United Methodist

Central United Methodist Church, Mathews, will hold a 9:15 a.m. online Sunday service. The Rev. Seonyoung Kim will be the guest preacher. The service will be broadcast on the church’s YouTube channel, which can be found at the church’s website, www.centralumcmathews.org.

Gloucester Point Baptist

Gloucester Point Baptist Church will hold its Sunday online service at gloptbaptist.org. The sermon title of Pastor Bud Goude will be “Is Satan for Real?”

A weekly devotional will be given each Thursday on its website.

Gwynn’s Island Baptist

Gwynn’s Island Baptist will host a drive-in worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday around the gazebo across from the church. Parking will begin at 10:15. The sermon topic of Dr. Ed Jordan, pastor, will be “Five Dimensional Growing Faith.” Special music will be provided by Lori Oliver and John Lee Callis. Communion will be observed. Participants should bring their own juice and bread to partake in their cars.

Kingston Episcopal Parish

Kingston Episcopal Parish, Mathews, will hold online Sunday services on its Facebook page as well as on YouTube.com available after 8 a.m. on Sundays. To receive an email copy of the Sunday bulletin, call the church office at 804-725-2175.

A compline service is on YouTube at any time by searching on “Prayers at bedtime in the time of a pandemic.” An Armchair Pilgrimage Class of the holy sites in Great Britain is taking place by email and Facebook. To join the class, contact the Rev. Gary Barker at barkergaryj@gmail.com.

Masks are available for anyone in need by calling the office.

LIGHTHOUSE

LightHouse, Ordinary, has moved all Sunday and Wednesday services to an online format at this time. Go to website www.LightHouseVA.Life to connect to the online services.

Every Sunday morning at 10 o’clock, LightHouse will have worship on the Facebook page: www.facebook.com/lwcfb. The video will be archived on the Facebook page and posted on the YouTube channel. Every Wednesday night, Family Watch Party is held from 6:30-7. Gather the entire family and join in the 25 minutes of learning, growing and laughing together. The event will be live-streamed on LightHouse’s Facebook page.

NEW HOPE CHRISTIAN

The sermon title of Prophetess Cheryl Forrest of New Hope Christian Church at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “There’s a Treasure in You.” All services will be on Facebook Live.

New Point Friends

The sermon title of Pastor Thomas Bunting of New Point Friends Church at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “Freedom Begins with Christ.”

Newington Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Mike Gray of Newington Baptist Church, Gloucester, will be “Family and Forgiveness.” Join us at 10:15 a.m. Sunday on Newington’s Facebook page.

Olive Branch United Methodist

Join us on Facebook every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Olive Branch United Methodist Church, Gloucester, for an online worship service.

Salem United Methodist

Join us on Facebook every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, Gloucester, for an online worship service.

A drive-through food pantry will be held from 9-11 a.m. Saturday. Everyone should stay in their car and pop their trunk so that groceries can be placed in.

Severn

Severn Church, Naxera, will host a canned food drive and baby pull-ups collection from 10 a.m.-noon Monday at the White Marsh Shopping Center. The food will be go to the food distribution center in Gloucester County and the baby pull-ups will be taken to Bellamy United Methodist Church for distribution.

Shepherdsville Baptist

Shepherdsville Baptist Church, Gloucester, will have Sunday morning worship service by way of conference call at 10:45. Join in by calling 712-770-4112 and using access code 876749#. The sermon title of Pastor Douglas Riley will be “Doing the Best I Can With What I’ve Got!” It will also be communion Sunday. Word of the week: “As you start each day, remember you were created for success, designed to win, equipped to overcome, anointed to prosper and blessed to be a blessing!”

The First United Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor E. Randolph Graham of the First United Baptist Church, White Marsh, for the 11:15 a.m. Sunday service will be “The Holy Spirit—Jesus’s Request for Us.” The service will be “Drive Up” and streamed via Facebook Live.

Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock

Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock, White Stone, has canceled all May Sunday services.

Westville Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Bob Huff of Westville Baptist Church, Mathews, at the 11 a.m. Sunday service will be “Do Not be Anxious about Anything.”

The church continues to collect used clothes, shoes and small housewares in its mission box in the parking lot.

Zion Poplars Baptist

Zion Poplars Baptist Church, Gloucester, has canceled its Sunday services.
