Services announced by local churches

Services and other activities in churches this week include the following:

Antioch Baptist

The Rev. John A. Jones of Hartswell Baptist Church, Ottoman, will preach at the 11 a.m. Sunday service in Antioch Baptist Church, Susan. The service will be in-person and Facebook Live at weareantioch1869.

Apostles Lutheran

Apostles Lutheran Church, Gloucester, will hold a Reformation worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday. Everyone is encouraged to wear red. Sunday school for all ages will be held after the worship service, as well as a coffee fellowship. Links to the service via Zoom or YouTube are on the church’s website at apostles-elca.org.

Bellamy United Methodist

Bellamy United Methodist Church, Gloucester, will worship at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The Faith Builders Bible Study will meet at 9:20 and the adult Sunday school class meets at 9:30. At the 10:30 service, children ages pre-K to fifth grade are welcome to join in the Children’s Church where there will be a brief lesson and fun activities. The Youth Group will meet at 5 p.m., with dinner provided.

Bethany United Methodist

The sermon title of Pastor Paul Song of Bethany United Methodist Church, Gloucester Point, at the 8:30 (informal) and at 11 a.m. (traditional) Sunday services will be “What do You Want Me to do for You?” Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:45. Nursery for infants to 3-year-olds is available beginning at 9:40.

Bethany’s annual Trunk or Treat will be held from 4-6 p.m. Saturday in the church parking lot.

Bethel Baptist

The sermon title of the Rev. James L. Harris at noon Sunday in Bethel Baptist Church, Gloucester, will be “The Gift of Righteousness.” The service will also be held virtually by logging onto https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/929136757 or call 1-312-757-3121 and use access code 929-136-757#. Sunday school will start at 10 virtually.

The virtual Wednesday Bible study will be held at 7 p.m.

Bethel Church of Mathews

Tom Robinson will be the guest speaker at the 9:50 a.m. Sunday service in Bethel Church of Mathews, Onemo. A Love Offering will be taken up for the hurricane victims with the money being sent to Samaritan’s Purse. Sunday school will follow at 11.

The church continues to collect non-perishable items for Hands Across Mathews.

A Harvest Dinner will follow the worship service on Sunday, Nov. 3. Sunday school will be held at 9 a.m.

Beulah Church of New Point

The sermon title of Pastor Dede Parrish of Beulah Church of New Point at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “History Matters.”

A Bible study, “The Chosen,” will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Church of the Living Word

The sermon title of Assistant Pastor Melvin Epps at the 10 a.m. Sunday service in Church of the Living Word, Hayes, will be “Glory to God.”

The book of I Thessalonians will be the 6:30 p.m. Wednesday Bible study topic.

First Baptist, Mathews

First Baptist Church, Mathews, will hold an ordination and pastoral installation service for Minister Isaiah J. Smith on Nov. 2-3. The ordination service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 at Calvary Community Baptist Church, Newport News, and the installation service will be at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at First Baptist.

First Baptist, Ordinary

First Baptist Church, Ordinary, will observe Woman’s Day at the 10 a.m. praise and worship service Sunday. Pastor Donna Freeman of Morning Glory Baptist Church, Gloucester, will be the special guest. Church school begins at 9 o’clock.

The Executive Board will meet at 1 p.m. today and the Quarterly Board meeting will follow at 2.

Wednesday Bible study will be at 1 p.m.

First Morning Star Baptist

First Morning Star Baptist Church, Bena, will observe its annual Choir Anniversary at 3 p.m. Saturday. Music will be provided by Reginald A. Fox, the Rev. Charles Bell, and the Rev. Dr. Janet Copeland. Leander Myers will be honored for his 25 years as the church’s musician.

The sermon title of Pastor Larry J. Arrington at the 11 a.m. Sunday service will be “Amazing Grace.” The service will be in-person, broadcast by teleconference (804-256-2475), and livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page.

Gleaning Baptist

Gleaning Baptist Church, Gloucester, will celebrate Men’s Day and Harvest Day in a combined service at 3 p.m. Sunday. Pastor Darry Echols of Rising Valley Baptist Church, James Store, will deliver the message. Music will be provided by the Gloucester-Mathews Male Chorus under the direction of Lenora Rice. Lunch will be served at 2 o’clock.

Gloucester Point Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Dillon Evans of Gloucester Point Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “The Purpose of Parables.”

Gwynn’s Island Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Ed Jordan, pastor of Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church, at 10 a.m. Sunday in the sanctuary will be “Spiritual Problem-Solving.” Special music will be by Joyce Livingstone and by Tyrone Hudgins.

Kingston Episcopal Parish

Kingston Episcopal Parish, Mathews, will observe Holy Eucharist Rite I at 8 a.m. Sunday in Christ Church, and Holy Eucharist Rite II at 10:30 a.m. in the parish house’s Kingston Chapel on Main Street.

Adult classes “The Poetics of Faith” take place at 1 p.m. Monday and 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Non-perishable items for Hands Across Mathews are being accepted at the parish house.

Mathews Baptist

The sermon title at the 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday services in Mathews Baptist Church, Hudgins, will be “Prophet for Profit?”

The annual “Trunk or Treat” event will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, rain or shine. Everyone is welcome, a release said.

Mathews Chapel United Methodist

The sermon title of the Rev. Angie Hoen, pastor of Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church, Cobbs Creek, at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “Declarations of your Heart.”

Mount Zion United Methodist

The sermon title of the Rev. Calvin Griffin of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Gloucester, at 9 a.m. Sunday will be “Experiencing God in Struggle.”

New Point Friends

Bill Layng will speak on “Treasures” at the 11 a.m. Sunday service in New Point Friends Church.

Newington Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Chris Grella of Newington Baptist Church, Gloucester, at 10:30 a.m. Sunday will be “Jesus’s Authority.” Various Sunday school classes meet at 9 o’clock.

Candy Caravan Trunk-or-Treat will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot.

Wednesday activities: 5:45 p.m. choir; 6 o’clock, Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Packing Party, and 6:30, Deeper Adults Bible study, Deeper Kids and COR3 Youth.

Salem Community

Salem Community Church, Gloucester, will hold its Fall Bazaar from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Barbecue will be sold for $12 per pound.

Shepherdsville Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Douglas Riley of Shepherdsville Baptist Church, Gloucester, at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “Bridge Builders.” The service will also be available by conference call 518-418-1016 or website, click on Zoom.

Singleton United Methodist

The sermon title of the Rev. Calvin Griffin of Singleton United Methodist Church, Ware Neck, at 11 a.m. will be “Experiencing God in Struggle.” All Saints’ Day for all those in the church who have passed this year will be recognized.

Monday morning Bible study at 9:30 will discuss “Relying on the Holy Spirit.” Wednesday night Bible Study at 7 o’clock will discuss the book, “Christian Denominations.” Bible studies will also be available on Zoom.

Spring Hill Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Ross Davis of Spring Hill Baptist Church, Cobbs Creek, at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “Order in Public Worship.”

The First United Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor E. Randolph Graham of The First United Baptist Church, White Marsh, for the 11 a.m. Sunday service will be “Trust God.” The service will be streamed via Zoom and Facebook Live.

The Kingdom Church Ministries International

The Kingdom Church Ministries International, Cobbs Creek, will have in-person worship at 10 a.m. Sunday in Cobbs Creek Art Center.

Union Baptist

Union Baptist Church, Hayes, will hold a membership class at 5:30 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Pastor Jared Berry will preach at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday service. Choir practice will be held at 5 p.m.

Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of The Rappahannock

Tom Parrish will speak on “Religion Culture and International Order” at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock, White Stone.

Westville Baptist

The Rev. Lytle Buckingham will preach at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday service in Westville Baptist Church, Mathews. Sunday school, “Acts,” will begin at 9:45.

Wednesday Bible study, “I Peter,” and prayer will begin at 3 p.m.

The church continues to collect food for Hands Across Mathews and toiletries for Mathews Social Services.

Westville Christian

The sermon title of Pastor Tim Dice of Westville Christian Church, Mathews, at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “Intentional Discipleship.” Bible Café will be at 9:45.

Zion Hill Baptist

Pastor Eugene Comithier II of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Gloucester, will preach at the 11 a.m. Sunday in-person service. The Male Chorus will sing. Sunday school will be at 9:45.
