Services announced by local churches

Services and other activities in churches this week include the following:

Abingdon Episcopal

Abingdon Episcopal Church, White Marsh, will have worship at 9:30 a.m. Sunday with coffee hour following.

Sunday School and Adult Formation are on a break and will resume in September.

Antioch Baptist

The Rev. Sean Cummings of Friendship Baptist Church, Newport News, will preach at the 11 a.m. Sunday service in Antioch Baptist Church, Susan.

The service will be in-person and Facebook Live at weareantioch1869.

Apostles Lutheran

Apostles Lutheran Church, Gloucester, will hold the eleventh Sunday after Pentecost worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday. There will be a coffee fellowship after the service.

Bellamy United Methodist

Bellamy United Methodist Church, Gloucester, will celebrate the eleventh Sunday after Pentecost at the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services. Pastor Ed Walker will continue his “Roadmap to the Bible” series as he explores the time after the Babylonian Exile. Bible study meets at 9:20 and the Faith Builders Bible study will meet at 9:30. The Well contemporary worship service will gather at 11:30. Brian Eckstein will share the message. Youth Group meets at 5 p.m. with dinner provided.

Loaves and Britches Food and Diaper Ministry will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Bethany United Methodist

The sermon title of Pastor Paul Song of Bethany United Methodist Church, Gloucester Point, at the 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday services will be “United in Common Confession.” Communion will be held at the 11 o’clock service. Nursery for infants to 3-year-olds is available beginning at 9:40.

Bethel Baptist

The Rev. Sheila Madanat will preach at noon Sunday in Bethel Baptist Church, Gloucester. Music will be provided by the Men’s Fellowship.
The coordinating council meeting will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Pastor Sheron Green of the Church of Abraham, will be the revival preacher for the summer revival services at 7 p.m., Aug. 7-9.

Bethel Church of Mathews

The sermon title of the Rev. Garry Livermon at the 9:50 a.m. Sunday service in Bethel Church of Mathews, Onemo, will be “Spiritual Blessings in Christ.” Sunday school will follow at 11 o’clock.

Beulah Church of New Point

Beulah Church of New Point welcomes the Rev. Dede Parrish back to its 11 a.m. Sunday service. Her sermon title will be “Oh! The Possibilities!”

Central United Methodist

The sermon title of the Rev. Rebecca Rumburg of Central United Methodist Church, Mathews, at 9:15 a.m. Sunday will be “Unity in the Faith of Christ.”

Church of the Living Word

The sermon title of Dr. Gregory Woodard at the 10 a.m. Sunday service in Church of the Living Word, Hayes, will be “It’s Going to Work.”
“The Epistle of Philippians” will be the 6:30 p.m. Wednesday Bible study topic.

First Baptist, Mathews

First Baptist Church, Mathews will celebrate its 76th annual homecoming on Sunday. The guest speaker at the 11:15 a.m. service will be Minister Isaiah Smith of Calvary Community Baptist Church, Newport News. Brunch will follow in the fellowship hall. Former pastor the Rev. Jonathan Waldon, of New Beech Grove Baptist Church, Newport News, will speak at the 3 p.m. service.

Revival service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9. The Rev. Vincent Pryor, pastor of New Mount Zion Baptist Church, Gloucester, will be the speaker.

First Baptist, Ordinary

The sermon title of Pastor Ward Warren of First Baptist Church, Ordinary, at the 10 a.m. Sunday service will be “The Most Wonderful Man Who Ever Lived.” Church school will be at 9 o’clock.

Revival services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, Aug. 9. The Rev. Dr. Robert Diggs and Tabernacle Baptist Church will be the special guests.

First Morning Star Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Larry J. Arrington of First Morning Star Baptist Church, Bena, at the 11 a.m. Sunday service will be “The Tempter’s Power is Broken.” Leander Myers and The Combined Choir will render the music.

Gleaning Baptist

Gleaning Baptist Church, Gloucester, will celebrate its annual Homecoming on Sunday. Dinner will be served from 1:45-2:45 p.m. The service will begin at 3 o’clock with the Rev. John W. Redmond and the congregation of Emmaus Baptist Church, North, as special guests.

Revival services will start at 7 p.m. Wednesday and continue through Friday, Aug. 9. Bishop Carlton Johnson and the congregation of Zion Branch Baptist Church, Saluda, will conduct service on Wednesday. The Rev. Dr. John Wright and the congregation of Immanuel Baptist Church, Saluda, will be in charge on Thursday, and the Rev. Dr. Walter Roy and the congregation of St. Luke Baptist Church, Plum Point, will close out the week.

Gloucester Point Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Dillon Evans of Gloucester Point Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “Does God Appoint Leaders According to His Plan?”

Grace Covenant Presbyterian

The sermon title of Pastor Jesse Hill of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church at 10:30 a.m. Sunday will be “No Longer Strangers.”

Gwynn’s Island Baptist

Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church will hold its drive-in worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday around the gazebo of Gwynn’s Island Civic League. Parking begins at 9:15. The sermon title of Dr. Ed Jordan, pastor, will be “Amazed Beyond Belief.” Special music will be provided by Island Praise.

Kingston Episcopal Parish

Kingston Episcopal Parish, Mathews, will observe 11 Pentecost with Holy Eucharist Rite I at 8 a.m. Sunday at Christ Church on Williams Wharf Road. Holy Eucharist Rite II will be held at 10:30 at Kingston Chapel on Main Street.

Living Waters Church of God

Living Waters Church of God, Dutton, will hold a yard sale from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday and Saturday. This will be a fundraiser for missions.

Mathews Baptist

The sanctuary of Mathews Baptist Church, Hudgins, will be open every first Thursday of the month from 9-10 a.m. for a special time of prayer. All are welcome, a release said.

The sermon title at the 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday services will be “Jesus’s Homicidal Neighbors.”

Mathews Chapel United Methodist

The sermon title of the Rev. Angie Hoen, pastor of Mathews Chapel United Methodist, Cobbs Creek, at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “Bound Together.”

Morning Glory Baptist

The Rev. Donna Freeman of Morning Glory Baptist Church, Gloucester, will preach at 11 a.m. Sunday. The Senior Choir will sing. Mount Zion United Methodist

The sermon title of the Rev. Calvin Griffin of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Gloucester, at 9 a.m. Sunday will be “Walking Together in the Love of God.”

New Mount Zion Baptist

New Mount Zion Baptist Church, Gloucester, continues its revival services at 7 p.m. through Friday. On Wednesday, the Rev. Morris Randall spoke. Bishop Carlton Johnson of Zion Branch Church will speak on Thursday and Pastor Sheron Greene of Church of Abraham on Friday.

The Rev. Jerry Bristol will preach at the 11 a.m. Sunday service.

New Point Friends

The sermon title of Pastor Thomas Bunting of New Point Friends Church at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “What is my Purpose?”

Newington Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Chris Grella of Newington Baptist Church, Gloucester, at 10:30 a.m. Sunday will be “Room for Jesus.” The nursery, for infants and toddlers, will be available. Various Sunday school classes meet at 9 o’clock.

Wednesday night COR 3 youth will meet at 6:30.

Redeeming Grace Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Douglas Riley of Shepherdsville Baptist Church, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “It’s Due Season.” The annual Homecoming service, “A Family of Faith,” will be at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. James Harris of Bethel Baptist Church will speak.

Singleton United Methodist

The sermon title of the Rev. Calvin Griffin of Singleton United Methodist Church, Ware Neck, at 11 a.m. will be “Walking Together in the Love of God.” The newly added Clara-Nova will be dedicated. Dr. Chuck McDaniel, pastor emeritus, will be the special speaker at 11 a.m. Sunday in Spring Hill Baptist Church, Cobbs Creek.

Susanna Wesley United Methodist

Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church, Ordinary, will hold Vacation Bible School, “Shine Jesus’s Light,” Aug. 8-10 for preschool-fifth graders. Times will be 6-7:30 p.m. on Aug. 8-9 and from 10 a.m.-noon on Aug. 10.

The First United Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor E. Randolph Graham of The First United Baptist Church, White Marsh, for the 11 a.m. Sunday service will be “Endure Hardship Like a Good Soldier.” Church youth will lead the worship. Praise and worship will begin at 10:45.

Union Baptist

Pastor Jared Berry will preach at the 11 a.m. Sunday service Union Baptist Church, Hayes. The choir will practice at 5 p.m.

Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock

The Rev. Andrew Millard will speak on “Together We Are More” at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock, White Stone.

Westville Baptist

The Rev. Lytle Buckingham of Westville Baptist Church, Mathews, has begun a new series, “Hope.”His sermon title will be “The Helmet of Hope” at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday communion service. Sunday school, “the book of Acts,” will precede the service at 9:45. A fried chicken lunch will follow the worship service.

Wednesday Bible study, “Daniel,” will be held at 3 p.m.

Westville Christian

Pastor Tim Dice of Westville Christian Church, Mathews, will preach from his sermon series “Psalmist Speaks” at 11 a. m. Sunday. His sermon title will be “And Praises.”

Zion Hill Baptist

The Rev. Karol Hopson will preach at the 10 a.m. Sunday in-person service in Zion Hill Baptist Church, Gloucester. The Senior Choir will sing. Sunday school will be held at 8:45.

The Women’s Ministry will have Women Empowered to Grow in Christ Retreat & Conference from Friday, Sept. 13-Sunday, Sept. 15 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Williamsburg.
