Services and specials announced by local churches

Services and other activities in churches this week include the following:

Abingdon Episcopal

Abingdon Episcopal Church, White Marsh, will hold a service of “Christmas Lessons and Carols” at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Zoom Bible study/prayer has been canceled for the week.

Antioch Baptist

Deacon Carroll Jackson will speak at the 11 a.m. Sunday service in Antioch Baptist Church, Susan.

There will be no Bible study/prayer this week.

Bellamy United Methodist

Bellamy United Methodist Church, Gloucester, will have a Carol Sing at one service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. A congregation fellowship luncheon will follow.

Bethel Church of Mathews

Bethel Church of Mathews, at Onemo, will hold a worship service of music at 9:50 a.m. Sunday. Sunday school will follow at 11.

The church will return to 10 a.m. Sunday school and 11 o’clock worship on Jan. 5.

Bethel continues to collect non-perishable items for Hands Across Mathews.

Beulah Church of New Point

Beulah Church of New Point, will hold a joint service with New Point Friends Church at 11 a.m. Sunday at New Point Friends.

Central United Methodist

The sermon title of Pastor Rebecca Rumburg of Central United Methodist Church, Mathews, at 9:15 a.m. Sunday will be “God With Us Always.” Sunday school follows worship at 10:15.

Church of the Living Word

Church of the Living Word, Hayes, held a Christmas service at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The sermon title of Assistant Pastor Melvin Epps at the 10 a.m. Sunday service will be “Breaking Kingdom News.”

“Titus” will be the 6:30 p.m. Wednesday Bible study topic.

First Baptist, Mathews

First Baptist Church, Mathews, invites the communities and churches to come and share with them a New Year’s Eve service at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Gloucester Point Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Dillon Evans of Gloucester Point Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “Tyranny of Traditions.”

Gloucester Union Relief Association of Missionary Baptist

The Gloucester Union Relief Association of Missionary Baptist will hold its regular session at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church, Gloucester. On Sunday, Church school will begin at 9:45 a.m. Pastor Stevens Burrell of Gleaning Baptist Church, Dutton, will preach at the 11 o’clock service. The Youth Department will render the service. Brenda Davis is the GURA Youth Advisor and Ava Lee will be the worship leader.

A New Year Eve’s “Closing Out” service will be at 6 p.m. at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Gloucester. Pastor Vincent Pryor, president, will render the message.

Grace Covenant Presbyterian

Pastor Jesse Hill of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Gloucester, will preach and play the music on his guitar at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. This will be a service where families are encouraged to stay and participate, a release said.

Gwynn’s Island Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Ed Jordan of Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Sunday will be “Singing a New Song!” Special music will be provided by Island Praise and by Tyrone Hudgins.

Kingston Episcopal

Kingston Episcopal Parish, Mathews, will observe the first Sunday after Christmas Day with Lessons and Carols and Holy Eucharist Rite II at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Church on Williams Wharf Road.

Wednesday noon Holy Eucharist/Healing will not take place on New Year’s Day.

The sermon title of Pastor Thomas Bunting of New Point Friends Church at the 11 a.m. Sunday service will be “Meaningful Gifts.” This will be a joint service with Beulah Church of New Point and Saint Paul Comfort Church.

Newington Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Chris Grella of Newington Baptist Church, Gloucester, at 10:30 a.m. Sunday will be “Journey to the Nativity: The Vision of an Architect.” The nursery, for infants and toddlers, will be available. Various Sunday school classes meet at 9 o’clock.

New Year’s Eve family game night will be from 6-9 o’clock. Tuesday. Bring a snack and family friendly game to share, a release said.

All Wednesday activities will resume on Jan. 8.

Westville Baptist

The sermon title of the Rev. Lytle Buckingham of Westville Baptist Church, Mathews, at 10:45 a.m. Sunday will be “Every Thing’s New.” Sunday school will precede the service at 9:45.

A New Year’s Eve service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Mission emphasis will be monetary donations for the Lottie Moon International Mission and non-perishable items to Hands Across Mathews and Mathews Social Services.
