Services and other activities in churches this week include the following:

Abingdon Episcopal

Abingdon Episcopal Church, White Marsh, will hold Holy Eucharist services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Both services are held in-person and the 10:30 service is livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube. Formation for all ages, “The Parables,” will be at 9:15.

As part of the commemoration of 375 years of ministry, the focus will be on the second 100 years of ministry. The final presentation in the series: “John Ericson of St. Luke’s Historic Church & Museum—The Struggle for an American Episcopal Church,” will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in the parish house with a reception afterwards.

The church is open for silent prayer from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday.

Angel Visit Baptist

Angel Visit Baptist Church, Dunnsville, will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its pastor, the Rev. Dr. Carla E. Lightfoot, on Saturday, Nov. 4 and Sunday, Nov. 5. An anniversary banquet will be held at 5 p.m. Nov. 4 at Segar’s Legacy Event Center, Tappahannock. Antioch Baptist

Apostles Lutheran

Apostles Lutheran Church, Gloucester, will hold a Reformation Sunday service at 10 a.m. A coffee fellowship will follow. Several members will participate in outdoor projects for God’s Work, Our Hands after the fellowship, a release said. Beech Grove Baptist

Beech Grove Baptist Church, Hayes, will host The Reverend Quartet from Suffolk, at 6:45 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Richard Croxton will preach at the 10:30 morning service.

Bellamy United Methodist

Kathy Angel will preach at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday in Bellamy United Methodist Church, Gloucester. Nursery (for birth to three years old) and children’s church, are both available at the 10:30. Bible study will meet at 9:30 and youth group meets at 11:30 with lunch provided.

The Gloucester Women’s Bible Study will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Bethany United Methodist

The sermon title of Pastor Paul Song of Bethany United Methodist Church, Gloucester Point, at the 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday services will be “A Song of Victory.”

Friendship Sunday School Class will host Trunk-or-Treat in the front parking of the church from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. All are welcome, a release said.

Bethel Baptist

A Motor Vehicle Traffic Stop Workshop with the support of the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office will be held from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 28, in the Bethel Baptist Church, Gloucester, parking lot. This is a free event and all ages are welcomed, a release said. There will be hot dogs, hamburgers and door prizes.

Bethel United Methodist

Bethel United Methodist Church, Onemo, will have its fifth Sunday musical at 10:50 a.m. Special guests will be David Shuber, Kathryn Diggs, Carolyn Smith, Richard Callis and Betsy Ripley. There will be a Harvest Party and decorating pumpkins during children’s time.

Non-perishables are being collected for Hands Across Mathews.

A four-week Advent Bible study for men and women will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. beginning Sunday, Nov. 19. The study, “An Unlikely Advent,” will focus on the experiences of four sets of often-overlooked characters in the Nativity story: Elizabeth and Zechariah, Herod, the Magi, and the shepherds. Becky Livermon assisted by her husband, Pastor Garry, will lead the study. Any churches or people in the community are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be offered. Church of the Living Word

The sermon title of Dr. Gregory Woodard at 10 a.m. Sunday in Church of the Living Word, Hayes, will be “Trust God.”

The topic at the 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in-person Bible study will be “II Corinthians 5.”

Francis de Sales Roman Catholic

The Church of Francis de Sales, Mathews, will observe First Friday Devotion with Mass at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, followed by an hour of Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction. The First Saturday Devotion will also be observed with Rosary at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 4, followed by Mass at 10 o’clock.

Gloucester Point Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Dillon Evans of Gloucester Point Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “For the Glory of God Alone.”

Gloucester Union Relief Association of Missionary Baptist

The Gloucester Union Relief Association of Missionary Baptist will hold its regular session on Saturday and Sunday at Morning Glory Baptist Church, Gloucester. The Executive Board will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday. Each church is asked to send two delegates. The Sunday Session will begin at 9:45 a.m. with Church school; followed by Youth Period led by Brenda Davis, GURA Youth Advisor, of Rising Valley Baptist Church, James Store.

The 157th anniversary service will be held at 11 o’clock. The Rev. Vincent Pryor, pastor of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Gloucester, and president of the GURA, will render the anniversary message. Lee Rice and combined GURA Women’s Chorus will sing. The Rev. Donna Freeman, interim pastor of Morning Glory Baptist Church, Gloucester, will be the worship leader. Dinner will follow the service in the church’s dining hall.

Groves Memorial Presbyterian

The sermon title of the Rev. Michael Condrey of Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church, Glass, at 10 a. m. Sunday will be “Great Love.” The nickel-a-meal offering for the Food Pantry of Union Baptist Church Food Pantry will be collected.

Gwynn’s Island Baptist

The sermon title of Dr. Ed Jordan, pastor of Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church, at 10 a.m. Sunday will be “Recipe for the Good Life!” Special music will be by Richard Callis.

Ladies’ Bible study meets at 10 a.m. Thursdays and men’s Bible study meets at 9 a.m. Tuesdays.

Kingston Episcopal Parish

Kingston Episcopal Parish, Mathews, will observe the 22nd Sunday in Pentecost with Holy Eucharist Rite I at 8 a.m. at Christ Church on Williams Wharf Road and Holy Eucharist Rite II at 10:30 a.m. at Kingston Chapel on Main Street.

Fall classes on “The Magnificent Defeat” by Frederick Buechner begin at 1 p.m. Monday and 7 p.m. Tuesday. Wednesday noon Healing/Holy Eucharist will be held at the parish house. An All Saints’ Day Dinner will take place that evening at 5:30 at the parish house to honor all the Kingston Parish staff.

Locust Grove

Locust Grove Church, Dutton, will hold a Fall Festival and Chili Cook-Off at 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be activities for the family including pony rides, hayrides, trunk-or-treating, bonfire with s’mores, pumpkin-decorating, and a pie-eating contest.

Mathews Chapel United Methodist

The sermon title of the Rev. Dr. Marcus Stallworth of Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church, Cobbs Creek, at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “Face to Face.”

Morning Glory Baptist

Morning Glory Baptist Church will host the Gloucester Union Relief Association on Saturday and Sunday.

The service will be streamed via Facebook Live.

Mt. Zion United Methodist

The sermon title of the Rev. Calvin Griffin of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Gloucester, at the 9 a.m. in-person Sunday service will be “Believe.”

New Point Friends

The sermon title of Pastor Thomas Bunting of New Point Friends Church at the 11 a.m. Sunday service will be “The Challenge of Change.”

Newington Baptist

Deacon Walter Johnson will speak at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in Newington Baptist Church, Gloucester. Sunday school will begin at 9.

The church will host a community Trunk-or-Treat from 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday in the church parking lot; rain or shine. In case of rain, it will be held in the gym. Come on out for hot dogs, treats, and even a surprise pumpkin/apple launch, a release said.

Olive Branch Global Methodist

Olive Branch Global Methodist Church, Gloucester, will hold worship at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Bible study that explores the promise given by the Lord at John 3:16 will be at 10:30, as well as a donut social. A Trunk-or-Treat will be held at 4 p.m.

Rock Church of Gloucester

The Rock Church of Gloucester will hold its annual bonfire at 6 p.m. Friday. Everyone is asked to bring a pack of hot dogs and buns. There will be chili, treats, games, and live praise and worship music.

The Rev. Phil and Kathy Dowdy will be the guest speakers at 10:30 a.m.

Salem Community

Warren Palmer will preach at 11 a.m. Sunday in Salem Community Church, Gloucester. The Craft Store will be open after the service.
Game Night will be held at 6 o’clock tonight.

A craft workshop will be available from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday. Stay for a minute or an afternoon, whichever works best for you, a release said.

Severn

Severn Church, Naxera, will hold a men’s musical at 11 a.m. Sunday featuring the Men’s Choir and other men of the church. A fall event for the children will be held from noon-2 p.m. Sunday. Parents are invited to stay with the children.

Singleton United Methodist

Singleton United Methodist Church, Ware Neck, will hold an in-person and Zoom service at 11 a.m. Sunday. The sermon title of the Rev. Calvin Griffin will be “Believe.” The service will also be available on YouTube. For Zoom login information, email Calvin.griffin@cox.net.

The United Methodist Men will hold a fish fry at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Monday Bible study, “Invitation to the Old Testament,” meets at 9:30. Wednesday Bible study will discuss “Life Lessons from Genesis” at 7 p.m.

Spring Hill Baptist

Spring Hill Baptist Church, Cobbs Creek, will observe Memorial Sunday at 11 a.m. Members who have passed away this year will be memorialized. Pastor Ross Davis will bring a special sermon, followed by a luncheon.

St. James On-the-Glebe Anglican

St. James On-the-Glebe Anglican Church, Gloucester, will hold 10:30 a.m. Mass for the 21st Sunday after Trinity with a weekly potluck fellowship afterwards. Morning Prayer will be at 8:30, followed by Adult Catechesis at 9:30.

The Feast of Saints Simon and Jude will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, with coffee following.

All Saints (“All Hallows Day”) will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, with Mass and bonfire. All Souls (“Day of the Dead”) will be celebrated at noon Thursday, Nov. 2, with Mass for the faithful departed.

Union Baptist

The youth of Union Baptist Church, Hayes, will hold a pancake breakfast at 9:45 a.m. Sunday. Pastor Jared Berry will preach at 11 o’clock.

A Fall Festival will be held from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.

Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock

The Rev. Tom Cole will speak on “Homeless Hospitality” at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock, White Stone.

Westville Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Bob Huff of Westville Baptist Church, Mathews, at 10:45 a.m. Sunday will be “In All that You Do.” Sunday school, “Mark,” will precede the service at 9:45.

The mission focus is on collecting canned goods and non-perishables for Hands Across Mathews.

Westville Christian

The sermon title of Pastor Tim Dice of Westville Christian Church, Mathews, at the 11 a.m. Sunday service will be “Come Down and Heed the Call.”

A potluck lunch will follow the service. Bible Café will precede worship at 9:45.

Zion Baptist

Zion Baptist Church, Cardinal, will have its Women’s Day Celebration, “It is Well,” at 10 a.m. Sunday. The speaker will be Dr. Andrea Robinson; Dr. Melissa Mason of Emmaus Baptist Church, North, will be the worship leader.

The Women’s Ministry will have two additional guest speakers on the topics, “Breast Cancer Awareness” by D. Lorraine Forrest of Antioch Baptist Church, Susan, and “Domestic Violence” with Youth Pastor Darlene Ward of the First United Baptist Church, White Marsh. Everyone is asked to dress in pink for the healing of breast cancer and purple for survivors of domestic violence. There will be a repast after the service, a release said.
