Services and other activities in churches this week include the following:

Abingdon Episcopal

Abingdon Episcopal Church, White Marsh, will hold Holy Eucharist services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Both services are held in person and the 10:30 service is livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube.

On Wednesday, food packs for Abingdon Elementary students are filled at noon and the church is open for silent prayer from noon-1 p.m.

Antioch Baptist

The Rev. Sean B. Cummings of True Word Ministries, Hampton, will be the guest speaker at the 11 a.m. Sunday service in Antioch Baptist Church, Susan. Mothers will be recognized during the service. Apostles Lutheran

Apostles Lutheran Church, Gloucester, will hold its worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday. A coffee fellowship will follow the service. Links to the service via Zoom or YouTube are on the church’s website at apostles-elca.org.

Bellamy United Methodist

Bellamy United Methodist Church, Gloucester, will celebrate Mother’s Day at the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday services. Children’s Church is available during the 10:30 service. Bible studies will meet at 9:15.

Loaves and Britches Food and Diaper Ministry will be held from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday. The XYZs (Extra Years of Zest) will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Bethany United Methodist

The sermon title of Pastor Paul Song of Bethany United Methodist Church, Gloucester Point, at the 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday services will be “Motherly Love of God.”

Bethel Baptist

The sermon title of the Rev. James Harris of Bethel Baptist Church, Gloucester, at noon Sunday will be “Communion in the Community.”

Bethel United Methodist

Bethel United Methodist Church, Onemo, will have a special message for Mother’s Day at 10:50 a.m. Sunday. All mothers will be honored.
In honor of Mother’s Day, baby items for Mathews Department of Social Services are being collected for the month of May.

Church of the Living Word

The sermon title of Lead Pastor Melvin Epps at the 10 a.m. Sunday service in Church of the Living Word, Hayes, will be “It is Time.”

The topic for the 6:30 p.m. Wednesday Bible study will be “L.I.F.E.” (in-person).

First Baptist, Mathews

First Baptist Church, Mathews, will celebrate its 158th anniversary on Sunday, May 21. The Rev. Jaymorle L. Ingram, Associate/Executive Pastor of First Baptist Church, Denbigh, will speak at the 11:15 a.m. service. The Rev. J. Winston Redmon, pastor of Emmaus Baptist Church, North, will speak at the 3 p.m. service.

First Baptist, Ordinary

The sermon title of Pastor Ward Warren of First Baptist Church, Ordinary, at the 11 a.m. Sunday communion service will be “The Gift That Counts.” Church school begins at 9:30.

First Morning Star Baptist

“My Mother Prayed for Me” will be the sermon title of the Rev. Larry J. Arrington, pastor of First Morning Star Baptist Church, Bena, at 11 a.m. Sunday.

The service will be in-person, broadcast by teleconference (804-256-2475), and livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page.

Gloucester Point Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Dillon Evans of Gloucester Point Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “Jesus Loves Moms.” There will be a special gift for all mothers.

Grace Covenant Presbyterian

The sermon title of Pastor Kathryn Moore of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Gloucester, at 10:30 a.m. Sunday will be “Spirit-Empowered Work.”

Groves Presbyterian

The sermon title of the Rev. Michael Condrey of Groves Presbyterian Church, Glass, at the 10 a.m. Sunday service will be “Living in Christ.” A coffee time will follow in the fellowship hall.

Kingston Episcopal Parish

Kingston Episcopal Parish, Mathews, will observe Holy Eucharist Rite I at 8 a.m. Sunday at Christ Church on Williams Wharf Road and Rite II and Baptism at 10:30 a.m. at Kingston Chapel on Main Street.

The new Christian Formation class begins at 1 p.m. Monday and 7 p.m. Tuesday. The book that will be studied is “Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom.”

On Wednesday, noon Healing/Holy Eucharist service continues in Meditation Chapel at the parish house and the Vestry meets at 6 p.m.

Mathews Chapel United Methodist

The sermon title of the Rev. Dr. Marcus Stallworth, pastor of Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church, Cobbs Creek, at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “Unforgettable Generosity.”

Mt. Zion United Methodist

The sermon title of the Rev. Calvin Griffin of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Gloucester, at the 9 a.m. in-person Sunday service will be “Living Out the Cleansing of Christ.”

New Point Friends

The sermon title of Pastor Thomas Bunting of New Point Friends Church at 11 a.m. on Sunday will be “The Gift of Mother’s Love.”

Newington Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Chris Grella of Newington Baptist Church, Gloucester, at 10:30 a.m. Sunday will be “What is the Church?” The service will include a special baby/child dedication. The service will also be livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page and YouTube. Sunday school starts at 9 o’clock. The nursery, for infants and toddlers, will be available.

Wednesday activities include: 5:45 p.m., choir; 6:30, adult Bible study, youth, and Kids Life.

Olive Branch United Methodist

Olive Branch United Methodist Church, Gloucester, will hold worship at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, followed at 10:30 by Sunday school.

The United Methodist Men will have a breakfast fellowship at 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 21.

Reedswood Christian

Reedswood Christian Church, Gloucester, will begin a new teaching series, “For You and Your Children,” at 11 a.m. Sunday.

At the heart of Christ-centered parenting is a calling to make disciples. During this six-week series, we will explore how mothers, fathers, grandparents, spiritual parents, and the church family can all take part in leading the next generation to become fully-devoted followers of Jesus, a release said.

Salem United Methodist, Gloucester

Salem United Methodist Church, Gloucester, will have worship at 11 a.m. Sunday. Breakfast for mothers and ladies, courtesy of the men of Salem, will be served from 8-10. Bible study, “In the Beginning,” will meet at 10 o’clock. Craft Store will be open after worship.

Wednesday Bible study, “In the Beginning,” will be held at 6:30 p.m.

USDA Food Pantry will be available from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 20.

Shepherdsville Baptist

The sermon title of Associate Minister Vivian Holmes of Shepherdsville Baptist Church, Gloucester, at the 11 a.m. Sunday in-person service will be “The Strength of a Mother.” Roses will be given to all women. The service can be accessed by Zoom or Audio at 518-418-1016.

Singleton United Methodist

The sermon title of the Rev. Calvin Griffin of Singleton United Methodist Church, Ware Neck, at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “Living Out the Cleansing of Christ.” The service will also be available on YouTube. The United Methodist Men will meet at 6:30 tonight at the church.

St. James On-the-Glebe Anglican

The Glebe Fields have been planted and with Rogation Sunday, St. James On-the-Glebe Anglican Church, Gloucester, will have Mass with Blessing of the Fields for the spring planting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Morning prayer will be at 8:30, followed by Catechesis at 9:30. Weekly potluck fellowship will be in the Hall and Glebeyard.

The “Chicken Coop” Chapel will be open daily for quiet and prayer between 9 a.m. Morning and 5 p.m. Evening Prayer.

St. Matthew United Methodist

St. Matthew United Methodist Church, Peary, will have a special message for Mother’s Day at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. All mothers will be honored.

The First United Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor E. Randolph Graham of the First United Baptist Church, White Marsh, at the 11 a.m. Sunday service will be “Mother’s Day: A Time to Guard the Deposits Entrusted Unto Us.” Praise and worship will begin at 10:45. Holy Communion will be observed. The in-person service will be streamed via Zoom and Facebook Live.

Union Baptist

Pastor Jared Berry of Union Baptist Church, Hayes, will continue his series from the book of Luke at the 11 a.m. Sunday service. There will be no choir practice.

Westville Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Bob Huff of Westville Baptist Church, Mathews, at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday service will be “Comfort from His Love.” Pastor Huff will sing “Mary Did You Know?” Mothers will be honored. Sunday school will precede the service at 9:45.

Wednesday Bible study will begin at 3:30 p.m.

Nonperishable items are being collected for Hands Across Mathews and toiletries for Mathews Social Services.

Zion Hill Baptist

Zion Hill Baptist Church, Gloucester, will have in-person worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday. Pastor Eugene Comithier II will preach and the Youth Choir will sing. In-person Sunday school will be held at 9:45.
