Senior Center members receive free beauty treatments

Students from the Dominion School of Hair Design, Gloucester Point, are coming to the Gloucester Active Lifestyle Center about once a month to provide free haircuts and manicures for center patrons.

A half dozen or so students gave professional cuts and manicures in July, instructor Bianca Winright said, and another group of six did the same on Aug. 2. Although no firm schedule has been set, Winright thinks the visits will continue monthly.

More than 30 seniors were served during the most recent visit, Winright said, some requesting haircuts, some manicures, and some sitting down for both.

"It’s a great service," said center regular Phyllis Gaultney of Gloucester.

Brittany Seidnitzer, a 2013 graduate of Mathews High School and Dominion student, said she enjoyed providing services while gaining practical experience through this volunteer work.
