Sen. Norment to serve as Majority Leader

Sen. Thomas K. Norment Jr. (R-James City), who represents Gloucester in the 3rd District, officially became Senate Majority Leader when the Virginia General Assembly convened for its 2012 Session last Wednesday, Jan. 11.

According to Amanda Johnston, spokesperson for the 3rd District office, Norment was also named chairman of the Senate Courts of Justice committee, which handles all legislation relating to the operation of Virginia’s judiciary, including interviewing and qualifying judges.

Norment will continue his service on the Senate Finance committee, which is responsible for all spending and taxation measures and the crafting of Virginia’s budget, Johnston said. He will also continue to serve on the Senate Commerce and Labor committee, which reviews legislation relating to business and workplace issues, and the Senate Rules committee, which is responsible for a wide range of legislation as well as the operation of the Senate and the General Assembly.
