Self-Directed Care Professionals opened an office recently at 7546 John Clayton Memorial Highway, near Peace Frogs, in Gloucester.

Sara McClain, chief executive officer for the business, said she began Self-Directed last June operating from her home. She runs the business full-time and it has grown to now have about a dozen part-time employees, including registered nurses and health care counselors.

McClain said her business can serve clients throughout the state. The business supports people who are eligible for Medicaid through the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services and choose to direct their own services.

Self-Directed deals with Social Services, schools and other agencies to advocate for services to its clients, McClain said.
