Self-defense classes offered at Whitcomb Lodge

Gloucester Parks, Recreation and Tourism is offering a pair of self-defense classes—one for girls ages 9-17 and the other for women ages 18 and older—beginning Friday, March 19.

The classes are offered at Beaverdam Park’s Whitcomb Lodge on Fridays through April 9. The class for girls is from 6-7 p.m., while the class for women runs from 7:10 to 8:10 p.m. Paula Asbell will be instructor for both.

The two programs are focused on empowering students towards personal and collective strength through self-defense, traditional martial arts, and unique fitness training. All classes are female-led in a safe, judgment-free space and are open to participants of all experience and fitness levels. The fee for each program is $45; the deadline to register is March 14.
