A section of Route 198 (Dutton Road) in Gloucester County will be closed to all traffic overnight on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at the bridge over Harper’s Creek, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Dutton Road traffic will be detoured from 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13 until 5 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14.

Construction crews will close the road to move a crane into position. The crane is needed to continue a project to rehabilitate a structurally deficient bridge at Harper’s Creek, which was built in 1941.

Motorists will be directed to follow a posted detour route:

Route 601 (Pampa Road)
Route 17
Route 606 (Farys Mill Road)
Route 678 (Harcum Road)

Electronic message boards will be placed on Route 17 and Route 198 to notify motorists of the upcoming road closure and detour route.

On the evening of the detour, vehicles traveling to Route 198 from Route 17 southbound will be advised by message board to remain on Route 17 until reaching Route 606 (Farys Mill Road...
