Search and rescue training Friday

Search and rescue training will take place on Friday afternoon in the York River between local and federal agencies. The training will take place out of Machicomoco State Park and will begin at 3 p.m.

The training will include teams from Abingdon, Gloucester, James City, York and West Point fire departments. The state Department of Wildlife Resources, Virginia Marine Resources Commission and Camp Peary will also take part in the training.

The training will see responders go through a boating accident scenario which will have rescue teams to conduct surface water, sonar and dive searchers in the York River. The exercise will allow participating agencies to work together in a controlled environment to learn each other’s assets and abilities that can be put to use in a real incident.
