Search and rescue exercise Saturday at Beaverdam

Tidewater Search and Rescue, an all-volunteer search, rescue and recovery organization, is partnering with the Gloucester County Emergency Management and Parks, Recreation and Tourism departments to host a training scenario beginning around 9 a.m. Saturday and continuing through the early afternoon at Beaverdam Park.

Members of the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc. and the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office will also take part in the exercise.

The scenario will involve attempting to locate a lost hiker who has not returned from a trip on one of Beaverdam Park’s trails. Those visiting the park on Saturday will likely witness search team members gathering outside of and traversing throughout the trails. The “lost hiker” may even be seen being carried out on a stretcher once found by the rescuers.

Those around the Gloucester Court House area may even hear and see various first responder vehicles responding to the scene.
