Seafood Shack experiences brisk sales

The Seafood Shack, a mobile seafood sales operation, has experienced brisk sales since it began parking on Main Street in Mathews each Friday and Saturday this summer, fish monger Robert Martin said.

Local oysters have been selling well at the trailer recently, Martin said, and customers like the large selection of mostly locally caught fresh fish and seafood. On a recent visit, a customer bought a couple of live lobsters flown in overnight from Maine.

The selection includes fish such as tuna, halibut, salmon, flounder, sugar toad, puppy drum and red snapper. Shellfish includes crabmeat of several types, oysters and several types of clams (available by the piece).

Martin said he didn’t open the trailer one Friday and heard so many complaints around town, he’s been back ever since.
