Schools look to make up snow days

All of this snow may make for happy students now, but while they have been enjoying the days away from school, plans are in the works to make up the missed instructional time.

Officials with Gloucester County Public Schools have set Monday, March 9, Friday, April 3 and Monday, May 4 as snow make up days for students, school division superintendent Walter Clemons announced Tuesday.

The make-up days were originally scheduled as teacher workdays and are listed on the school calendar as potential make-up days. The division cancelled classes for seven days in February because of snow.

“What’s most important to us is the loss of instructional time,” Clemons said, even though Gloucester public schools have enough hours in their existing schedules to compensate for the seven days missed and still exceed the 990 clock hours required. “But instruction wise, we wanted to make up three days of that time.”
