School supper raises $35

110 YEARS AGOThursday, March 30, 1911from the Mathews Journal

The Educational Rally, held at Mathews C.H., on Tuesday under the auspices of the Ladies Civic League, was an interesting and profitable occasion. About $35 was realized by the sale of dinner, supper, and ice cream in the Junior Order Hall. A splendid dinner was served.

At 2:30 o’clock a large crowd assembled in the Court House to listen to the speakers. Rev. J.A. Winn, of lower Mathews, made a most encouraging and interesting address. He was followed by Prof. A.B. Chandler, of Fredericksburg, District examiner of this scholastic division, who is a very forcible and instructive speech discussed in detail the school situation here. He is distinctly master of this subject and an artist in presenting it in an attractive way.

Great interest was manifested and it is hoped that much good was accomplished.
