School safety forum at Mathews High

Mathews County Public Schools will hold a public forum at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 on school safety and security. The forum will be held at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School.

Parents will hear from school administrators, mental health professionals and law enforcement regarding threats in schools and the appropriate measures to take in order to keep everyone safe, according to a release from superintendent Nancy Welch.

“Mathews County Public Schools is committed to providing the safest possible environment for its students,” Welch said. “Over the years, we have taken steps in the matter of securing our schools (locking exterior doors, installing monitored entry systems, and installing security cameras). The school division continually strives to improve the emergency responses and preparedness.”
