Katlin Marie Major of Saluda graduated magna cum laude and received a bachelor of science degree from Longwood University during commencement ceremonies May 12.

Laura Dale South received a bachelor of science degree in liberal studies from Longwood University during commencement ceremonies May 12. South also had minor studies in children’s literature and completed her degree requirements in December. The daughter of Dale and Melanie South of Mathews, she is employed by Williamsburg Montessori School.

The following local students were named to the spring semester dean’s list at Virginia Tech: Steven C. Kemp of Dutton; Catherine A. Wahlman of White Marsh; Michael P. Clifton, Leigh A. Vogelbein and Kenneth L. Wynne, all of Hayes; and Ryan D. Bristow, Kelly A. Gilmartin and Wesley A. Kenyon, all of Gloucester. The recognition requires a 3.4 or higher GPA.
