School briefs

Lissetta Brandy of Gloucester, is a member of the 2013 Marching Royal Dukes, James Madison University’s 485-member marching band. Brandy, a senior majoring in interdisciplinary liberal studies, plays in the band’s guard section.

 

Brandon Harris, a math teacher at First Flight High School in Dare County, N.C., was recently named the 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year for Dare Public Schools. Harris taught at Gloucester High School for two years before relocating to Dare six years ago.

Colleagues nominate and vote to select their annual Teacher of the Year. In addition, FFHS students nominate and select a teacher for the Good Apple Award several times throughout the year. Harris received the first award given in 2010, and has been selected for the award for each of the three years of the Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) initiative.
