School brief

Benjamin Lanning of Gloucester, a student at Hampton Roads Academy, was a first-place winner in the high school essay category of the 10th annual United Jewish Community’s Holocaust Writing Competition. There were more than 625 entries from different high schools across the Peninsula. Lanning and the other winners will receive special recognition for their accomplishments at the Hol-
ocaust Memorial Day observance on Sunday, May 1, at the Jewish Community Center in Newport News.
