The Mathews County School Board will hold a special meeting at 6 o’clock Tuesday night in the Mathews High School media center to consider candidates to fill the vacancy left on the school board by the resignation of school board member Jen Little. 

Little, who served on the board for the past nine years, tendered her resignation at the board’s Dec. 13 meeting. Residents have until 3 p.m. Monday to apply for the interim vacancy.

The board will receive public comments and then meet in closed session to discuss the appointment. The board is expected to make the appointment the following Tuesday, Jan. 17, at its regularly scheduled meeting.

The interim appointment will only last until Dec. 31, 2017. A special election will be held this fall to fill the remainder of Little’s unexpired term. ...
