School board to hold budget work session today

The Mathews County School Board will meet at 4 o’clock today in the Mathews High School media center to hold a work session on the division’s proposed 2011-2012 budget.

In the draft budget presented to school board members on Feb. 15, Superintendent of Schools David J. Holleran proposed a $12.2 million budget with expenditures increasing by roughly $50,000 over the current operating budget. That money would go toward the purchase of classroom technology.

Next Wednesday, March 9, the school board will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget, starting at 6 p.m. That meeting will also be held at the MHS media center.
