School board tackles organizational matters

The Gloucester School Board met Tuesday night in the T.C. Walker Education Center to handle its annual organizational items, including approving chair and vice chair nominations, choosing board members for committees and reviewing its code of ethics.

Troy Andersen, the board’s 2022 chairperson, was the only board member nominated for the position of chair and was reelected for the position by a vote of 5-1-1, with board member Darren Post dissenting and board member Carlton Drew abstaining.

For the position of vice chair, board members Kellie Lockerby, 2022 vice chair, board member Karen Espinoza and Darren Post were nominated. Espinoza did not accept the nomination to serve as vice chair. Lockerby was elected as vice chair by a 4-2-1 margin with Post and Drew dissenting and Espinoza abstaining.

The school board continued the meeting with a discussion of committee assignments, which were approved unanimously.
