The Gloucester School Board made several personnel appointments during its budget work session, which was held on Feb. 28 in the T.C. Walker Education Center Auditorium.
Sheila Smith of Gloucester was appointed to a fourth grade teaching position at Achilles Elementary School, effective Feb. 20; James Doss of Gloucester was appointed to a security officer position at Gloucester High School, effective March 9; Brandon Carlton was appointed to a security officer position at GHS, effective March 13; Mark Molnar of Gloucester was appointed to a security officer position at Botetourt Elementary School, effective March 13; and Jason Lawrence of Gloucester was appointed to a security officer position at GHS, effective March 6.
The board also made the following substitute appointments:
Cheryl Jenkins was appointed to a substitute bus driver position, effective Jan. 24; Kacy Skidmore and Brenda Flood-Childress were appointed to substitute bus driver positions, both effective Feb. 14; and Aaron Woods was appointed to a substitute teacher position, effective Jan. 30.
The following appointments were made for the 2023-2024 school year:
Nina Carr of Williamsburg was appointed to a special education position; Saphronie Harrell of White Plains, Maryland, was appointed to a kindergarten teacher position at Bethel Elementary School; Sarah Mastellar of Cobbs Creek was appointed to the eighth grade civics teaching position at Page Middle School; and Taylor Mikula of Gloucester was appointed to an elementary teacher position.
The board also made the following reassignments:
Ansley Trice was reassigned from a fourth grade teaching position to a social worker position at Achilles, effective Feb. 23; Amanda Payne was reassigned from a building level substitute position to a kindergarten teacher position at Botetourt, effective for the 2023-2024 school year; William Thomas was reassigned from a general facilities technician position to a master facilities technician position, effective March 1; and Vernice Hunter was reassigned from an assistant custodial foreman position to a custodial foreman position at Abingdon Elementary School, effective March 1.
The board also accepted the following separations:
Nancy Mitchem retired from a kindergarten teacher position at Botetourt, effective July 1; Patricia Woller retired from a counselor position at Peasley Middle School, effective July 1; Valerie Berry resigned from a paraprofessional position at Petsworth Elementary School, effective Feb. 22; Candice Smith resigned from a first grade teacher position at Bethel, effective Feb. 24; and Angela Head resigned from an English teacher position at GHS, effective March 24.
