The Mathews County School Board, meeting on Tuesday night in the Thomas Hunter Middle School media center, approved granting 11- and 12-month employees a day off from work on Wednesday, Dec. 23. That day was originally included in the calendar as a work day for those employees.

Offices at all three county schools and the school board office will close on Dec. 23 and reopen on Jan. 4, 2016 for the division’s winter break.

Winter break for students begins on Monday, Dec. 21, with students returning to class on Jan. 4.

In personnel matters, the board approved the appointment of Annika Becker as the Odyssey of the Mind coach, as well as two volunteer appointments: Imazel Blake as an assistant to varsity boys’ basketball head coach Charles Forrest and Patrick Billups to intramural basketball. ...
