School board adopts $14.17M budget

  

By a 4-1 vote, the Mathews County School Board approved its FY 2017-2018 budget during Tuesday night’s regular monthly meeting, which was held in the Mathews High School media center.

The $14.17 million budget represents an increase of $463,837 from the current operating budget. The county is being asked to contribute $8.13 million, which is an increase of $679,951 over this year’s $7.45 million.

The proposed budget is based on a lower enrollment than the 2016-2017 budget (1,050 vs. 1,061) and includes a 1 percent raise, plus step, increase for all employees. The proposed budget also reflects increases in Virginia Retirement System and health insurance premium payments for school employees.
