School board accepts bid for Lee-Jackson roof

The Mathews County School Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to ask county supervisors to appropriate $135,000 for the removal and replacement of the Lee-Jackson Elementary School roof.

Streamline Roofing of Williamsburg turned in the lowest of three bids to do the work, which includes the replacement of approximately 52,614 square feet of roofing, not including the gym roof, which was fixed in the summer of 2017.

Bids were opened on March 1, with proposals from Peninsula Roofing Company of Newport News ($138,244) and Clark’s Roofing Company of White Stone ($198,250) also received. Superintendent of Schools Nancy Welch said that Streamline Roofing should be able to begin work almost immediately, as soon as funding is approved by supervisors.

The matter will likely be considered Tuesday by the Mathews County Board of Supervisors when it meets at 7 p.m. in the historic courthouse.
