Saturday’s Polar Plunge fundraiser canceled

Amy Ashberry has canceled the seventh annual Polar Plunge which had been set for Saturday morning at Haven Beach in Mathews to benefit Operation Christmas Child. Anticipated severe weather, including up to 40 mph winds, wind chills to minus 15 and a deep snowfall, caused her to seek an alternative. Ashberry has issued instead a Snow Challenge in which everyone can participate to raise funds. “You also have a chance to win a prize if you participate!” she said. She has set up the Snowfall of Hope Challenge donation page through a website, a link of which is accessible through her Facebook page. The challenge asks for any kind of snow photos, “silly, fun, beautiful, or creative” from Mathews, Gloucester, and anywhere else. Post snow photos, tag Ashberry, and make a donation of any amount to support Operation Christmas Child, a yearly benefit that sends shoeboxes of items to children around the world.
