Sarah Oliver Cox, 91, Hayes, entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at Riverside Convalescent Saluda.

She was born Dec. 15, 1924 to the late Garry F. Oliver and Lucile Catharin Shepard Oliver in Gloucester County, Va. 

Sarah retired in 1986 from Eastern State Hospital as a nurse’s aide after more than 31 years of service. She worked outside the home for many years, while raising her children and taking care of her home. She also found time to assist her husband in the general store, Cox Grocery they owned at Maryus. Sarah was a woman of strength, dedication and faith, and lived life to the fullest each day. She was a lifelong member of Beech Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Leslie Cox Sr.; son, Thomas Leslie Cox Jr., and brother, John Franklin Oliver.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynne Clarkson and husband Frank and Joyce Jenkins; sons, James L. Cox Sr. and Roger Dale Cox Sr. and wife Betty Jean; 11 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service conducted by the Rev. David Thornton was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family received friends Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
