Sarah C. Starkey of Hayes, Virginia, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024, after a long illness. Born to Clyde and Ethel Coleman on December 15, 1927 in Buena Vista, Virginia, Sarah had been a member of Gloucester Point Baptist Church since 1971 and the Woman’s Missionary Union for over 60 years. Throughout her life, Sarah generously gave of her time and talents. In return, she only requested assurance that those who remain when she is gone shall continue to love one another as she had loved them and that they be happy. She was the widow of Wayne H. Starkey; the mother of David (Jon Miller) of Salem, Virginia, and of Wayne Anthony (Jamie) of Newport News, Virginia, and the beloved aunt of Susan Starkey Whitfield (Larry) of Gloucester Point, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 11 until 11:45 a.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service, conducted by Pastor Ray Goude, in the chapel at noon. Interment will follow at Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family kindly requests contributions in Sarah’s memory be made to Gloucester Point Baptist Church, P.O. Box 305, Gloucester Point, Va. 23062. Sarah’s family is grateful to the nurses and staff at The Huntington and The Newport for their care during the last years of her life.
