On Friday, August 19, 2016, surrounded by friends and family, Sarah Ann Carter of Mathews, Virginia, transitioned from her life to her eternal home.  

Sarah Ann was born September 8, 1954, to James and Mavis Griffin of Fitzgerald, Georgia.  Preceded in death by her father, Sarah Ann is survived by her loving mother, Mavis Griffin, and her devoted husband of 15 years, Byron Carter of Mathews.

Left to cherish her memory also include her son, Paul Banks of Mathews, and her three siblings, Joan Wallace, James “Jimmy” Griffin and Robert “Robbie” Griffin.  Her beautiful spirit will be carried on through her cherished grandchildren, loving nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

Sarah Ann worked for many years as a salon owner and hairdresser. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh and her strong will. She loved cooking, gardening, spending time with friends and family, and had a true love for animals. Sarah Ann belonged to Living Waters Church and gave her faith to her Lord.

At her request, a formal service will not be held. Sarah Ann asked that her life be celebrated. Immediate friends and family will privately celebrate her life as she wished.
