SARA ELIZABETH KERLIN GOLAB LANE

Betty Lane, 97, of North, Va., died April 30, 2015.

She was born in Newport News to the late William Upton Kerlin and Mary Jane Young-Kerlin on Oct. 10, 1917. She was the loving wife of Walter Golab and Chester Lane.

She is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth Golab-Pitts and Carol Golab-Reed and their husbands Robert Pitts and Robert Reed. She is also survived by five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lane worked as an administrative specialist for the U.S. Army at Ft. Monroe, Va., at the time of her retirement in 1983. She also worked at Nachman’s Department Store in Newport News for many years.

She loved sewing, bowling, Bingo, and her family. She attended Bingo three times per week at the Gloucester Moose, Deltaville Rescue Squad, and the Ruritan Club in Hartfield until her untimely death.

She was predeceased by her brothers, William Kerlin, Norman Kerlin, and John Kerlin, and her sisters, Rachel Heartwell and Theo Burt.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the C Diff Foundation or a charity of your choice.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at 1 p.m. in Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton.

Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory, Gloucester, was in charge of arrangements.
