SARA ANN TURNER

Sara Ann Turner, 79, of Mathews, Va., passed away on Jan. 19, 2015 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born Sara Ann Cramer on Jan. 28, 1935, in Port Morris, N.J.

Sara was a registered nurse, graduating from Elizabeth General Nursing School in Elizabeth, N.J. She spent over 25 years working at New Jersey’s Dover General Hospital and, after she retired, she cared for her disabled sister for 30 years in her home. She loved being a nurse and always told everyone she met about her profession.

Sara belonged to many volunteer organizations, including the Hopatcong New Jersey Woman’s Club, the Dover General Auxiliary, and the Chesapeake Bay Circle of The King’s Daughters and Sons. Until moving to Virginia, she was a faithful member of the Westside Methodist Church in Hopatcong, N.J., serving in many volunteer positions over the years. She had been a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church since March 2010.

Sara was predeceased by her loving husband, Norman C. Turner; her parents, Florence Hriczko and Foster Cramer; her stepfather, John Hriczko, and her brothers, Carl Cramer and Lewis Cramer.

She is survived by her daughters, Florence Palmer of Branchville, N.J., and her husband Steve, and Norma Enders of Mathews, and her husband Bruce. Sara had three grandchildren whom she loved very much, Steven J. Palmer Jr. of Newton, N.J., and his wife Mary, and Noah and Shannon Enders of Mathews. She is also survived by her sisters, Lila Peterson of Delaware, and her husband Charles, Elizabeth Anderson of Mathews, and her brother, Foster Cramer Jr. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and her loving brother-in-law, Carl Turner, and her best friend and sister-in-law, Norma Turner.

The family will welcome friends from 2-3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, followed by a memorial service at 3 o’clock at St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Peary, Va.
