SAR chapter meets in Kilmarnock

The Richard Henry Lee Chapter of the Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution met Nov. 9 at the Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club in Kilmarnock

Dr. John D. Metz, who is Deputy of Collections and Programs at the Library of Virginia in Richmond, was guest speaker. He noted that his section is responsible for the maintenance of 33 million documents collected from counties and cities in Virginia, providing a valuable resource of the history of the commonwealth. In addition to the documents, his section maintains a watch over 500 pieces of notable Virginia art. Metz indicated this treasure trove is open to the public.

The meeting began with a moment of silence to remember immediate past president Rick Frisbie, who died the preceding Saturday. Chapter president Michael Rhodes presented a certificate to Jerry Thrash recognizing the proper way to retire an American flag.
