SAMUEL JOHN MOFFATT JR.

Samuel John Moffatt Jr., “Big John” of Gloucester and Springfield, Va., Vero Beach, Fla., and Bradford, Pa., Sept. 13, 1927-Nov. 26, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Lauretta Moffatt, and son, Samuel “Johnny” Moffatt III.

John is survived by his daughters, Emily Moffatt Anderson (Bob) and Ruth Moffatt McBride (Kevin); four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

His love of basketball put him through college where he remains listed as one of the top 100 players at George Washington University. He coached and taught Physical Education in Washington, D.C. Later, he was a school administrator in Northern Virginia.

He was passionate about family and nature, particularly the mountains and ocean. He maintained a positive attitude and fabulous sense of humor throughout his life. He was well loved and will be greatly missed.

To the end he was: “Fine as wine, Frisky as whiskey, Cool as ice and Twice as smooth.”

There was a Celebration of Life on Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, at 5 p.m. in the Hampton Inn in the Meeting Room.

Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory, Gloucester, was in charge of arrangements.
