Sampson named commander of Flotilla 66

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 66, Mathews, held its annual Change of Watch ceremony on Dec. 13 at USCG Station Milford Haven.

Ray Procopio, the current flotilla commander, and vice commander John Bonner handed over command of the flotilla to Walter Sampson and Nick Koch, the flotilla’s new commander and vice commander, respectively. Senior Chief Petty Officer Mark Emerson, Officer in Charge USCG Aids to Navigation at Milford Haven, administered the pledge.

Flotilla 66 promotes recreational boating safety through public education classes, free vessel examinations and participation in community events. The group also provides direct support to the Coast Guard at Milford Haven through on-water training, assistance in response to emergencies, standing watch at the station and frequent food service preparation for the unit’s members, a release said.
