Samaritan Group tops local Amazing Raise recipients

The Samaritan Group, Inc., of Gloucester received the most money of any other local organizations during last week’s Amazing Raise for nonprofits in Central Virginia, the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula. The 36-hour online giving event was held Sept. 16-17 and was organized by The Community Foundation.

According to Amazing Raise spokesperson Leslie Franklin, the Samaritans received 298 gifts amounting to $9,675. Overall, the event provided over 1,000 gifts totaling $65,000 to 38 nonprofit organizations serving Gloucester and Mathews, falling short of Gloucester’s goal of raising $100,000.

According to Franklin, other local organizations with the highest amount of donations from the event include the Gloucester-Mathews Care Clinic, with 66 gifts totaling $6,640; Virginia Institute of Marine Science Foundation, with four gifts totaling $5,150; Gloucester Historical Society, with three gifts totaling $5,150; The Fairfield Foundation, with 77 gifts totaling $4,765; Mathews...
