Craig Ciszewski is hoping for fair winds and following seas as he works to establish the Mathews Sailing Team in time for competition this spring.

The Bavon resident is talking to Mathews High School students this week and intends to meet with both students and their parents next week as he seeks to make the team a club sport at the school, with the first regatta to be held March 9.

An avid sailor with a son who is a student at Mathews High School, Ciszewski will serve as race director for the Mathews Sailing Team, as well as a coach.

He has had several meetings over the past couple months to try to get this program off the ground and said the school division and MHS have given him their support. Ciszewski has also spoken to potential sponsors of the club, although he said has been hesitant to accept donations until students are signed up to participate, and he has researched possible practice locations.
