Safe from Erin

As Hurricane Erin moved closer to the Eastern seaboard than previously expected on Tuesday morning, Brad Newcomb of Hayes, assisted by his wife Anita, pulled his 20-foot bow rider out of the York River at the Gloucester Point Beach public landing. It had been docked at a friend’s house in Sarah’s Creek, and Newcomb said that, with 39-40 mph winds forecast for the area, he decided to move it to his home rather than anchor it. As of Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service had issued a coastal flood watch during high tide cycles for the Peninsula and Middle Peninsula, to remain in effect until Friday afternoon.
