Sadler steps down from school board

Jeanice Sadler, a member of the Mathews County School Board for the past six years, is stepping down from that position next month.

She announced her resignation at the start of Tuesday’s school board meeting in the Mathews High School media center.

“It is with regret that I am resigning my position as a school board member, effective Nov. 30, 2021 due to relocation. My new residence will not be in Mathews County,” she said in prepared comments. “It has been an honor and privilege to serve as an elected school board member.”

Her departure creates a vacancy that the remaining school board members will be tasked to fill with an interim appointment, likely in early January.

Sadler was first elected to the school board in 2015, winning reelection in 2019. The interim appointment would be for less than a year; a special election would have to be held in November 2022 for the remainder of Sadler’s current term, which expires in 2024.
