Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester, as well as Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, have been named to the 2026 Chartis Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals list. RWRH and RSMH are the only two hospitals in Virginia to receive the distinction this year. The Chartis Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals program honors high-performing rural hospitals based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX, which evaluates hospitals across measures of quality, patient outcomes, cost and operational efficiency. Recognition on this list affirms that patients in Virginia’s rural communities have access to care that meets the highest national performance standards without having to leave their region for treatment.
