Run for the Fallen pays tribute to Virginia’s war heroes

The 2014 Virginia Run for the Fallen 18-member core team made its way through Gloucester last Thursday, stopping every mile along Rt. 17 to honor a veteran who died in service to the nation during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, or New Dawn.

A total of 28 military veterans were honored during the team’s local run. They were all either Virginia natives or military personnel who were stationed in Virginia at the time of death.

Three of those honored were former Gloucester residents—26-year-old Mason Lewis, who died in a training accident on Nov. 16, 2007 while on his second deployment to Iraq; 22-year-old Eric Caldwell, who died on Jan. 7, 2007 in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and 20-year-old Joshua E. Bredlau, who died Aug. 23, 2009 in a stateside motor vehicle accident after having served one combat tour in Iraq.
