Martha Frame, vice president of the Piankatank Ruritan Club in Mathews, introduced the club’s newest “member,” Rudy Bear, at the August dinner meeting. Rudy Bear is the official mascot of Ruritan National. The real, life-sized costumed Rudy, as portrayed by Henry Thompson of the Gloucester Ruritan Club, visited the last Piankatank Ruritan Fish Fry and received rave reviews from the crowd. The Piankatank Ruritans voted to send $300 to Ruritan National to purchase 20 of the 8” Rudy Bear dolls to donate to children who are patients at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
