Route 17 improvement projects rebid for third time

Two separate Route 17 traffic improvement projects in Gloucester County are now out for bid—again.

“Both projects were advertised to potential bidders on schedule on June 28, 2016,” said Kelly Hannon, communications manager for the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Fredericksburg District. “Neither project drew any bids.

“Consequently, the projects were advertised again in August. There was one bid, but it was over the cost estimate.”

Hannon said Tuesday that the projects have been advertised for the third time, with the bids to be opened in December.

Two projects are planned to improve traffic signal operations and traffic flow along Route 17 (George Washington Memorial Highway) in Gloucester. One project will coordinate traffic signals along Route 17 between the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge at Gloucester Point and south of the Gloucester village.
